When I stepped up to an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb a couple years ago, I was immediately impressed with its responsiveness and even increased fuel economy - but it's never had a smooth-as-glass idle. It's not bad - not like it's going to die at a red light. But enough for me to sometimes give it a touch of gas (while sitting still) to smooth it out.

Just wondering if one of the Edelbrock calibration kits would do the trick... Perhaps smaller jets would smooth things out a bit (?) If so, is there a specific number for this kit on the Summit site (for example)?

Thanks for any advice!

some things to consider on your idle

check your timming make sure its right

make sure you dont have the blades on the carb too far open letting the boosters start to kick in if you can see fuel flowing inside the carb when running at idle you have them open too much

if it is open too much you need to work on the idle circut of the carb close the blades so that a small portion of the transition slot is showing start the car see where it runs if it wont run then you need to enrichen the idle circut

if that hasnt helped any then try raising your idle slightly

allso one thing to remember is that changing jet wont affect idle only part and WOT

try ajusting the air bleeds and mixture screws thats where i would start first

hope that helps and doesnt confuse you too bad if you have an questions just pm me ill be glad to help

Agree with Maverick - if the problem is at idle, it won't be solved by the calibration kit. You probably have some "chunkies" partially clogging the idle circuit. I'd bet that if you try adjusting the idle mixture screws, one side will have limited or no effect, meaning it's clogged.

Sorry I never got back to you Joe... We just brought our premature baby boy home from the hospital, and the Mustang is on the back burner! Hopefully I'll have time to try the carb adjustments by next week.
