Breathing a little easier!
I got so tired of the "pht-pht-pht" sound from my trumpet exhaust tips that I finally decided to do something about it. The louvers look really cool, but make an awful sound (to me anyway) besides being very restrictive. So after an afternoon with the trusty Dremel, I now have a free-flowing trumpet tip that still looks for the most part factory. This restomod stuff is fun!
The louvered end piece and its large trim ring are all one piece, and are attached on the inside edge of the trumpet pipe with two small spot welds. Once the slant is cut off - you can get to the inside of the louvers quite easily. I just cut away everything that I didn't need from that trim ring and re-attached it with J-B Weld (love that stuff!). Everything cut easily with the Dremel heavy-duty cuting wheels - although they do wear down quickly.

I'm sure you could find something similar in the aftermarket that does not have the louvers... no need to chop 'em up.

But the trumpets are 2.25" yes? Not 2.5" or whatever you feed in with?
But the trumpets are 2.25" yes? Not 2.5" or whatever you feed in with?
For instance - right now I have a 10 year old 2" dual exhaust system. That in turn has the small twisted trumpet extensions on it. So whenever I step up to a proper 2.25" system, I'll cut off the back halves of the trumpets right where they measure 2.25" in diameter, and weld them dirrectly to the new tailpipes.
Baby steps!
I had already cut the trumpet flairs off and welded the ends to 2-1/4" pipe, but was getting tired of the pht-pht sound myself. I've seen one other stang with the louvers cut out of the trumpets completely and was going to do that myself this winter. But your angles look so much better, I'll have to do that too!
Great idea.
