Unhappy

The blinkers in my 67 turn on, but don't blink. When I bought the car about 8 months ago the blinkers were fine and gradually they started blinking sparadically...then about a couple months ago they stoped blinking. I flip the lever and they turn on on the dash, and outside the car....why are they not blinking...any suggestions?

It could be the signal CAM in your steering wheel or it could be the flasher unit under the dash. The flasher is cheap so check that first. if it is the CAM do no tget the repair kit they are junk, just replace the whole CAM.

More than likely you have a poor or many poor ground connections. The flasher blink because of the current load in the circuit, high resistance slows that flow way down. The flasher has a thin metallic strip that is heated by the current flowing thru it, when it gets hot enough it bends and breaks the circuit. When it cools it snaps back and the process is repeated.

As a test you can switch the hazard flasher and the turn signal flasher, if the turn signals work the flasher is bad. Then check the lights, check for water getting into the fixtures and corroding the bulbs and sockets.

Well that really depends on who or what may have messed with the wiring over the years but you should be able to locate it somewhere inear the center. Do you know what it looks like?

Should be a metal clip/recepticle spot welded to the cool air intake on the driver side. The flasher unit slips in there so it's sound will be amplified by the vent tube. Sometimes the clip is in the back so is hard to find.

Good luck!

Turn signal flasher is located on the right side of the steering column under the dash. The four way flasher unit is more than likely on the passenger side of the dash to the left of the glove box.
