i have a 69 fastback and i am redoing the brakes. i took the master cylinder out and i am trying to bench test it to make sure it is working.
this car is equiped with discs up front and drums in the rear. when i push the lever in fluid shoots out of the 2nd opening (furthest from firewall) and nothing comes out of the first one (closest to firewall). there is a sucion from the first one but nothing comes out. is this normal?
after i do the master i am going to take out the brake booster and check that out. is there a way i can check that out also?

The gyser of fluid is a normal function, it is called compensation. Did the master work on the car? Without a gage to measure the pressure produced I can think of no way to check the function of the master unless it was installed on a car.

i figured it out on my own. the big resivor is for the front brakes, smaller one is for the rear. i have to keep pumping the master to see if fluid pumps out of both ports, if not, new master.

You can't generate enough pressure with a bench test to properly check a master cylinder. If in doubt, just replace the thing!!! It's ONLY YOUR BRAKES! Not a great place to cut corners.
