Im restoring a 1969 Ford Mustang Sportsroof. It has a 351 Windsor. Basically, its a piece of :notnice: The exterior is a beautiful primer gray with a rust racing stripe at the bottom and on the roof. If you have any tips, plz post them here.

Thanks,
Eric

I'd restore it to make it look original, please don't put them 20'' restomod rims on it or make it a shelby or mach clone or whatever, I love a 69 with 15'' Mag 500's. Are you gonna keep that Windsor? If you don't I'd go with a Cleveland or a 390. Are you wanting an everyday driver or just a show/track car?...and what color are you painting it?

But remember, you're only out to satisfy yourself on this car, these are just my opinions

Thats a nice car your deciding to restore. Its my personal favorite model. The car will look sweet no matter what you do to it. Except putting low rider wheels on it. My 69 fastback has 15" cragers with beefy tires and it looks good. I've also seen a 69 with 17" wheels and low pro tires and it looked awesome as well. In fact that is an option i may go with in the future. I'm a fan of restomod. I dont see anything wrong with customizing these cars. As for the motor, i'll agree that a cleveland would be a good option. Thats what i got. I'm happy with it. Good luck, post pictures.

I say keep that Windsor! There are WAY more parts for it and cheaper too.
It also fits between the shock towers a lillte better too...
There are many options with that motor.
I am close to 600hp on pump gas with mine, except that is a bit hard to do.

Anyway a great project, and car. You will probably get better responses to more specific questions though. Good luck.

That is my favorite year also. I restored a fastback a few years ago pretty much back to original with paint color and wheels as the exception. I would pretty much stay stock on this model as the value of these cars is going up all the time. I would definitely keep that windsor. You can beef it up plenty good enough for the street, unless you are planning on racing it. I had about 9000 in my fastback and resold it for 13,000 so you can see that they are a very good investment. I have since used the extra money I made and bought a 69 Mach 1 last year. Good luck with however you decide to restore it and definitely do what makes you happy with it.

There is nothing wrong with restomodding; i have a 69 mach1 too and its in good shape; lots of little things; scratches, blemishes in side and out; a fading dash, etc. Its a clean straight body; virtually no rust ( from what i can tell without stripping it ).

I am going to install 17"s on it; i found a good article on the web and now i cannot find it they had pictures using a 69 fast back with 15" 16" and 17s" with pictures; that would have helped a lot; i'll keep searching because the author talked about width and clearance and lowering.

I am going to build my 351 W into a 427 stroker and am talking with JBA in so cal to do the work for me, but i expect it to be sometime before i start.

After probing various sites onthe web, finding 1969 parts and components will be a chore; sorry to say they are not as popular as some of the others.

www.jmeenterprises.com - makes a killer dash replacement, contact them for info.
also if you are close to Southern CA, contact either JBA ( www.jbaracing.com ) or in No Cal ( www.mustangranch.biz ).

good luck

Im not a fan of the restomods, but I dont see any problem in doing it. I like to see em look pretty original outside, but the engine can be modded, i just like to see some Mag 500s or something on a car

Those JME dashes are nice, but they stink. When I contacted them for my 69 they pretty much said send us the money and someday we will get around to it!

I made my own, you can see pics at

Nice job on the white face gauges; mine are kinda shot too but the speedometer does stablize after 40 mph! As far as JME. i hear many different stories about them but I am going to lean a little on the trusting side, only because the manager at JBA knows him personally ... now i know of one other maker of a stock looking 69 dash insert and i think they are based in riverside county ... if you goto this site ... www.fordmustangsales.com search their links and you might find their partner business.

BTW .. on the boss429 ... what is the exact name of those rims or a model ... they look nice. Did you have any problems installing them; like clearance or turn radius?

Thanks on the gauges, you can do it yourself, it is not that hard but I think I spent around $450 or so just on the gauges and another few bucks on parts etc...

I believe those wheels are Vintage wheels, also I believe he said the fenders were rolled in the back and already rolled in the front from the factory.
