1965 Mustang Coupe Window Sticker

Hello. Can anyone tell me where or if I can even find a window sticker for a 1965 Mustang Coupe? I'm the 4th owner of this car, and now that she is 41 years old, most likely someone misplaced or threw away the original window sticker for the car. I also asked to know how to tell if this is a "true" GT Coupe or not. Attached are some pics of the car. Thank you for your time.

Very Respectfully,

The fifth place (after 07) in the vin# should be A (4v) or C (2v)
This page may help:

You can get repro sticker from one of the classic suppliers.

You could scour your car for a build sheet. Mine was under the passenger seat tucked up in the springs. I think sometimes they can be found under the carpet too. You might get lucky! But if your engine code on the VIN isn't an A or K then your search is over because those are the only two engine choices in 65 for a GT.

FYI: For folks with 1967 and later Mustangs you can go here to get official Ford licensed reports on your vehicle: http://www.martiauto.com/

Three V8 engines.
K is the hypo I doubt its that. The last one I did was a C, 2 barrel carb.

197988 is probably the 97988th car built in Metuchen.

If there is a plate at the door I might be able to tell you more if you give us the codes on it.

From my information, the 1965 GT only came as an A or K code, not the C code engine so that would confirm the car as not being a GT.

Is my '65 or '66 Mustang a factory GT?

Here are some items to look for. Factory GT's will have the following
in 1965-66:

1. Build date after March 1965.

2. A or K code engine (in VIN).

3. Front disc brakes, heavy duty springs, sway bar and shocks (was available
with other packages or in some cases individually-front discs).

4. Factory dual exhaust (was also available with non-GT's and C codes).
Will have correct floor and rear frame rail reinforcements.

5. In 1965 they received a different glove box door than standard Mustangs
and full gauges similar to 1966's.

6. Grill lights (driving lights) mounted to the grill center with
horizontal bars.

7. Correct wiring harness and placement coming to and from the
radiator core support to the light bar.

8. Correct switch and placement of on the under left hand side of the
dash for the fog light switch.

9. Side GT stripes and emblems (no holes in fender for the standard
MUSTANG script or running horse).

10. Chrome exhaust tips existing through the rear valance (round with
chrome/stainless oval trim). Will show no sign of rear bumper guards.

11. Gas cap - standard Mustang on '65 GT's on '66 special GT gas cap.

12. No rocker panel molding so no mounting holes.

13. No quarter panel trim so no mounting holes.

14. No special interior or wheel packages required.

Here are all the numbers I could find on the car:

65AA26 05V 23 66
5T07C197988
31 H5 5T07C197988
65A A 26

There is a switch (looks like a toggle switch) located under the dash on the left hand side of the steering wheel just under the headlight pull ****.

The build date on this Mustang is 05AUG65 so it is a later built Mustang in 1965.

Thanks for all your replies on this post. This is our first Classic Mustang, and we are trying to get it back to original condition which it isn't far from right now. The only items that aren't original that I have found so far is the tape deck radio (dash has not been cut out to make radio fit) and possibly the fog lights attached to the grill. Everything else looks to be original. I did find an old AM Ford radio out of a 66 convertible. I just need to see if the radio can be fixed back to working order. Thanks again!

So it looks like its an original V8, but not a GT. The grill and fog lights probably weren't on the original car.

65A--2-Door hardtop,standard interior
A---Raven Black
26- Black crinkle vinyl,standard interior
23--Philadelphia area distribution
6---2.80 open axle
6---C4 auto trans.
