Former Mustang Hater Loves His 6-speed S550 Mustang GT
JDM YouTuber Cameron Alford falls prey to the lure of the Ford Mustang, and explains to his followers why the pony car is king.
Cameron Alford’s popular Youtube channel’s packed with videos about small displacement performance cars from Japan including a Nissan 350Z, MAZADASPEED3 and a Subaru WRX STI. There are also 36 videos documenting his build of a Ford Focus ST.
But these days, he’s singing the praises of the Ford Mustang, in lust with his white 2016 GT 5.0 6-speed. He’s created several videos documenting his passion for the muscle car, including the installation of an Xtreme Sound Level cat-back exhaust from Corsa Performance. His latest vid, titled “Why You Should Consider Buying a Mustang” proclaims, “This car does everything well, you just need to drive it, it’s a blast.”

Perfect for the Beginning

“The point I’m making, is that this car is super cheap to make it fun,” Alford says, as he drives it around city streets. “Some cars like the STIs and a lot of the hot hatches you have to spend a lot of money upfront to make them fun, but this car you throw a Corsa cat-back exhaust on it and you have torque all over the place, you’re moving on the ground quick and honestly I thought it would get really boring, but it doesn’t.”
Shooting entirely with one camera inside the car, Alford also ignores a view of the exterior styling in favor of frankly repetitive shots of the interior and the side of him. Yes, the car sounds fantastic, with a deep rich rumble, and it is fun watching him bang through the gears (with proper rev matching). However, the highlight of the video is his defense of Mustang drivers, who we all know have gotten a bad reputation. His explanation of the Ford’s handling and the adrenaline rush it provides is also right on. Then he describes the advantages of its torque and durability. “I can beat the crap out of a car finally and not stress,” he says.
But it doesn’t really matter. There’s another Mustang lover in the world and he’s extolling the virtues of our favorite muscle car to whole new group of enthusiasts. “If I wanted a car I can daily, if I wanted a car I can take with my friends in the canyons. I just want to live the car lifestyle to its fullest potential for $20,000 this car would be it,” he says.
