Redline MTL - Installed - Thoughts
Install...
- Pretty basic fluid swap. As always with tranny fluid it makes a huge mess, and its a pain in the butt snaking your fluid pump up to the fill hole. I attempted to reach it from inside the car with the center console removed but couldnt do it, so I had to jack it up.
- Plugs... mine were on so tight I had to use a 2 foot breaker bar to get them off. When they came off they made a loud POP as if there was lock-tight on there and I just broke it. However, I can't find it documented anywhere that they would put lock-tight on the drain and fill plugs. I put em back on and torque'd em to spec and no leaking... so I guess I'm alright.
- Fluid difference... the old one is most likely the QS. Its much thicker than the Redline and more orangy/purple color to it. Redline is a nice thin pinkish color. They both stink, so its hard to tell anything from smell. No shavings or chunks came out in the fluid, but I didnt put any magnet in it. (5/20/10 build date)
Shifting....
- Cold, I noticed the different right away. It shifted cold like it used to shift warmed up. (meaning: its a bit tough to shift and its a bit notchy, but I never got locked out of a gear).
- Warm, it shifts much much better. Much easier to get into gear than before. I wouldn't say it removed the notchiness completely, but it definitely helped.
- Due to my Barton shifter and bracket, it has a much "mechanical" feel to it. Its hard to describe. Its not quite "harsh" and its not quite "crisp". Just a more direct feel to shifting I guess. I wouldn't recommend the Barton to anyone unless they were going to also do a fluid swap. I really love the Barton much more now.
- No whine at all with this fluid. However, as others have posted, when I'm resting my hand on the shifter I get much more noise and vibration coming up from the tranny. I never noticed this before with the stock shifter+fluid. I don't really mind though, because it will get me in the good habit of not putting pressure on the shifter while its in gear.
Overall very happy I went through the hassle of doing this fluid change.

Meh, the Redline MTL meets the WSD-M2C200-C listed in the owners guide. So I figure I could talk my way into some stuff, clutch, etc.
Anything major... I only put about 3k a year on this car, so I figure if it didn't happen between 0-3000 it won't happen between 3000-9000. Plus, its just as easy to get stiffed by my dealer with a completely stock car than with a car with this fluid.
