loosening rusted nuts

Just wondering if it would be OK to heat up a nut with a propane torch and then spray some PB Blaster on it to help loosen it?? Or is that going to cause a little problem?

Nope the blue wrench always works well. Just make sure you can't light anything on fire and you have an extinguisher close by, keep in mind that the PB is very flammable. So try it first and give it plenty of time to work. Then if thats is not working dry off the area of any excess PB to reduce the chance of catching fire.

I have got the liquid wrench which is NOT flammable....so I may try that first!

Anyone else who can share any experiences using a propane torch and penetrants/lubricants for loosening rusted bolts??

I like to heat it, then let it cool a couple of times, then hit it with the PB blaster to soak a few minutes.

What ever you do don't ask Blue Notch, he has to pay people to get his huts off.

So you wait before using the PB Blaster?? I am afraid of starting up a little fire by using it after heating the nut with the propane torch.

Unless it's red hot when you spray it on (and you don't want to get it that hot anyway), you're not going to start a fire with the PB. Hell, pour some water on it to make sure its cooled down before you spray it if you are worried about a fire.

usally it will take an open flame to start that stuff up. Just use the heat no spray then try to loosen your nuts.

Sorry, not trying to scare you. The car is not going to burst into flames or anything. Just wanted to make sure that you are mindful of the open flame and the fact that some rust busting sprays are flammable. I would hate for anyone to soak down a nut and bolt and then after 30 sec hit it with a torch and start a fire.

If you hit it with spray first and let it soak, even up to 30 min and then if that does not work wipe off any excess spray and try the torch. The torch will burn anything left off and not start any more of a fire than what is already coming out of the torch.

Never heard of it. I prefer a heat wrench and some PB.
