Mystichrome SVT Mustang Auction Give Us A Good Market Value Update

MystiChrome is the most sought after color on any SN95 Mustang, and this one is a prime example on current market trends.
In the world of the Ford Mustang, MystiChrome is one of the most sought-after colors in the entire range. It’s only available on the SVT Cobra, and only about 1000 of those were made per year. And it wasn’t just awesome on the outside. Even the interiors had a special MystiChrome accent. The central area of the seat had the same change of color as the outside of the car with a special leather insert.
In 2004, the MystiChrome package was only a $3650 option. Which makes you wonder why more people didn’t spring for that color. So when one comes up for sale it’s always interesting to see what the market value currently stands.

We found this one on Bring-A-Trailer, and it has only 8000 miles. Representing a collector-level condition, this car has seen very little use. But at the same time it’s a car that can be driven without worrying too much about additional mileage. So what’s it worth? At the time of writing – which is about two days before the end of the auction – current bids stand at around $55,000. However, with auctions like these, you never know if there will be a last minute bidding war.

For the Mustang collector who wants a rare car that will surely appreciate in value, a low mile MystiChrome Cobra is a safe bet, as opposed to one with delivery mileage. Not only because of the rarity, but also because it is fun to drive on occasion. 390 horsepower is on tap from the 4.6 liter V8 motor and 390 lb/ft of torque is ready to twist through the 6-speed manual.

Sure there are other Mustangs that offer more performance for the dollar. A brand new Mustang GT is about $40,000 and has substantially more power. But it won’t quite increase in value like this kind of Cobra. And given the resurgence of the collector car market you can be assured that cars like this which are reaching 20 years old are going to increase in value. In some states, you can register a 25 year old car as an antique. It’s very strange to think that this car is only 7 years away from being eligible for such a classification.
