Mustang GT Battles It Out With 650 Horsepower Expedition

By -

Surprises fill this bizarre matchup of a bone stock Coyote 5.0 Mustang GT and a tuned EcoBoost Ford Expedition.

The phrase “Modified Ford Expedition” is not something you’re going to run into a lot in life. However, when they do get modified, they are quite the sleeper. Simple modifications make a monumental difference in power output, so if a Mustang is something out of reach due to size limitations, we have some excellent news for you.

Youtube channel The Fast Lane Truck set out to see if their modified Ford Expedition could outrun a stock Mustang GT. While it may seem a bit farfetched at first, it’s a lot more reasonable than you might think. One would think a drastic amount of work would need to be done to the Expedition’s 3.5-Liter Ecoboost engine to be on a level playing field, but you’d be wrong. A cold air intake, catless downpipe, upgraded intercooler, and a custom tune is all it takes to push a whopping 650 horsepower from the V6. Everything else is entirely stock, including the exhaust from the downpipe back. This thing is an undercover track weapon.

Furthering that claim is the fact that the body, wheels, tires, and interior are all entirely stock. Other than the company banner on the windshield, there is not a single giveaway that this big rig is going to hurt your feelings.

Mustang and Expedition Race

Does it actually compare to the Mustang, though? When tested, the Expedition put down a zero to sixty time of just 4.66 seconds, while the Mustang took 4.8. Even more impressive the fact that the expedition whipped out a zero to sixty time of only 5.0 seconds fully loaded with four grown men as passengers. When put head to head their eighth-mile time and speeds were nearly identical.

While it doesn’t fit the bill for the looks of the Mustang, this is a genuine option to have Coyote performance and tote the family around. You can certainly be sure the kids will never be late for soccer!
