2021 Shelby GT500 Shows Challenger Hellcat Its Taillights in Drag Race
Watch this 2021 Shelby GT500 dust a ‘Demonized’ Hellcat in Germany in one of the stranger drag races we’ve seen.
As long as muscle cars have roamed this earth, owners have lined them up to see which is the quickest in a straight line. And while the latest Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 isn’t exactly a purpose-built drag racer like the Dodge Demon, it’s still pretty darn quick. As we’ve seen time and time again, the GT500 makes a suitable straight-line warrior, and that’s also the case when this 2021 Shelby GT500 lines up against a “Demonized” Dodge Challenger Hellcat in Germany.
In this video from YouTuber Gumbal, we get to see the 2021 Shelby GT500 line up against a couple of vehicles on this particular day, starting with – strangely enough – a lifted, heavily modified Jeep Wrangler. The Mustang makes quick work of that four-wheeler, unsurprisingly, leaving it multiple car lengths behind.
Next up is the Challenger Hellcat, which seems to be modified in some manner, though we’re not exactly sure what’s going on under the hood. It’s also unclear what that giant “Demonized” sticker means on the front bumper – perhaps it’s referring to the satin black hood and fender badges, or maybe it has received upgrades that bump output up into Demon territory. Regardless, none of that seems to matter.
In the first race, both cars stumble off the launch, but the Mustang driver exhibits a far better reaction time and jumps out to an early lead, regardless. Meanwhile, the Hellcat spins quite a bit before gaining traction and making a run for it, but by then, it’s all over. The Challenger does make it a decent race, but the driver is still staring at the Shelby’s taillights by the time the two cross the finish line.
The two decide to give it another go, but this time, the Hellcat driver rips off the most pathetic burnout attempt we’ve ever seen as he tries to warm up the tires for a better launch. This time, the Challenger gets the jump and seems destined for victory, but the Dodge winds up emitting a giant plume of black smoke as it finishes up the run. Not exactly a great outing for the big orange coupe, but we’ve all had our fair share of bad days at the track, right?
