Mustang GT Beats Hellcat Challenger in Family Track Shootout

By -

Mustang GT driven by young female enthusiast runs a 9.38, stomping her dad’s Dodge as she aims for low-9s.

In stock form, a 2018 Ford Mustang GT would struggle to keep up with a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, but with the addition of a Whipple supercharger and a host of other upgrades, this daughter-driven pony car is able to beat dad’s Mopar over and over and over again. This video comes to us from the YouTube channel of That1320Chick and it features a series of quarter mile battles between the owner of Alternative Auto Performance in Michigan and his daughter JoAnna, with results that will surprise anyone who isn’t familiar with the silver Mustang GT.

Mustang and Hellcat Details

The host of this video is JoAnna Iacobelli , the driver of the silver Mustang GT and the daughter of Lidio Iacobelli, who owns and operates Alternative Auto Performance. Lidio is well-known for his expertise in building high performance Ford products, so it comes as no surprise that daughter drives a sick Mustang GT. Unfortunately, she doesn’t run us through the details of her pony car, but in looking at her other videos, we know that she has a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, suspension upgrades and a long list of upgrade high performance features that make it a whole lot quicker than it was when stock.

Hellcat Challenger

As for the Hellcat, it has a factory supercharger with a 2.85 pulley, an aftermarket camshaft, a 9.5 lower pulley, an E85 tune, 31-inch drag radials, front runners and an assortment of supporting mods such as a cold air intake, a duel pump fuel system and forged pistons.

We don’t have power numbers for either car, but we know that the Hellcat Challenger is a whole lot heavier than the Mustang GT.

Father-Daughter Duel

The first run is the best, with JoAnna jumping out ahead of her dad’s Challenger and continuing to walk away until she got the win light. On this first run, the Mustang pulled a 1.39 60-foot time en route to a 9.38 at 149.7 miles per hour while dad’s Hellcat only ran a 9.71 at 144.1 miles per hour. Mind you, this run was made in 2,500 density altitude.

The two race twice more before the video ends and in both, the Mustang GT rolls to victory. On the second run, something happens with the Hellcat on the launch and the Ford takes the easy win while on the last run, the Dodge keeps it close and still loses.

In other words, on three straight runs, the blown Ford Mustang GT driven by the daughter makes short work of dad’s Hellcat Challenger.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
