2018 Mustang Will Rock Michelin Pilot Sport Tires Right Out of the Box

Because even the latest in technology and engineering wouldn’t matter if the 2018 Mustang’s rubber wasn’t up to par.

There’s a slogan from a popular tire manufacturer that goes: “Power is nothing without control.” And damn, ain’t that the truth! Ford has spent the last decade turning the Mustang into a better-than-average sports car. Not just for an American sports car either. It’s one that can compete with Germany’s best in terms of sales and performance. As you can imagine, that’s no easy task.

2018 Ford Mustang

The new Mustang GT will feature Michelin Pilot Sport 4S high-performance summer tires directly from the factory. This puts the pony car in a dignified group of talented sports- and even supercars. According to Ford, this rubber is designed for optimal wet and dry grip, as well as braking distance and lateral handling performance.

The optional Performance Package makes the GT the first US production car to wear these tires. They also play a significant role in getting the car from 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds.

As you already know, the modern Mustang is an agile and extremely competent machine by any industry standard. And with the 2018 model being a refresh and not a full redesign, Ford focused on improving small details that paid large dividends.

“We took everything we learned at the track, including feedback from professional drivers, to create a tire custom-tuned for Mustang GT,” said Gary Swingle, Michelin tire engineer.

Sized 275/40-19 for the rear and 255/40-19 for the front, this rubber promises to be a key contributor to the Mustang’s performance. Ford didn’t release specifications on the tire longevity yet. But we can’t imagine they’ll last too long, especially with 460 horsepower on tap.
