1993 Mustang Cobra Gets a Retro Review

By -

In 1993, were you rollin’ in your 5.0 with the ragtop down so your hair could blow?

Get ready for a blast from the past. We’re going all the way back to 1993, when the pants were very, very baggy and the YouTube comment section was all but a distant nightmare. It was a much simpler time. It was also the last year for the Fox Body Mustang, which was about to be replaced by the redesigned fourth-generation model. To help usher us back to this bygone era, check out this Motorweek Retro Review of the Mustang Cobra.

1993 Ford Mustang Cobra

If you’re familiar with Fox Body history, this review shouldn’t shock you. As discussed briefly in the video, Chevy had just released their fourth-generation Camaro while Ford was a year out from the new SN95. So to close the gap, Ford released the Cobra to show that it wasn’t going to rest on its laurels for a year. The result is the most refined Fox Body of all-time.

But the backstory is only part of the fun watching this Retro Review. The best part is seeing just how far Mustangs have come in the quarter-century since. Motorweek takes their time going over all the Cobra’s bells and whistles. Today, it’s hard to think of any of them as impressive.

A big Cobra highlight is its analog gauges – including voltage and oil pressure. Devoting that much space in your dash to voltage and oil pressure is almost comical today. Our modern cars have computers and digital displays that give us every sort of reading we could possibly want. If they liked the Cobra’s gauges then, modern displays would make 1993 Motorweek crap their pants.

Regardless of how you feel about the ’93 Cobra or Mustangs in general, watching this video sure takes you back 25 years. Maybe you had one of these Mustangs. Maybe you were young enough to have the poster on your wall. Or maybe there was a guy in your neighborhood who would blast Vanilla Ice in his Fox Body. Regardless of what you remember, this video is sure to make any Mustang fan smile.
