2018 Ford Mustang’s ‘Good Neighbor Mode’: Would You Use It?

By -

We think if your neighbors can’t appreciate the sound of an American V8, they should find a new neighborhood.

Technology is a beautiful thing. It allows us to be lazy, live more comfortably, and do things our grandparents believed to be unimaginable. The Ford Mustang has benefited greatly from technology advancements, but this? This “Good Neighbor Mode” sh*t is just un-American.

Ford proudly put out a press release about this little gizmo on the 2018 Mustang. Inside, the release contained the video you see above. A cool little production designed to show the convenience of the new Quiet Start system, or as they call it: “Good Neighbor Mode.” Heck, they even included the testimonial of a former head of vehicle engineering, who had the cops called on him by his neighbor after starting up his Shelby Mustang GT350 in the morning.

Because of that experience, Quiet Start came to life. In reality, we think the engineer’s neighbors are a bunch of assholes. But we at The Mustang Source do have common sense, and know that many Mustang owners have tiny babies who like to sleep in.

“I love the sound of the V8, but it can be loud, and you can’t annoy people like that in your neighborhood,” said von Foerster, who now leads Ford’s user experience team in product development. “It sounds so cool, but I thought, ‘There has to be a way to give people more control over the engine’s sound.’”

Few things are more frustrating than waking up a little one after you’ve fought so hard to get them to sleep, or trying to sneak out with the boys when the wife isn’t paying attention. So on second thought, Quiet Start might not be such a bad thing. Plus, it can even be scheduled! You can set the time of day and day(s) of the week when Quiet Start should quick in, and when it shouldn’t.

Okay, maybe this “Good Neighbor Mode” isn’t so bad. But still, screw those neighbors!
