Watch this Ford Fox Body Mustang Run a 7.91 at the Strip

By -

This Mustang is the fastest vehicle in the world that features a stock bottom end on a 5.3-liter V8 engine. In other words: It’s quick!

Getting a car to go down the drag strip seems easy. Place a massive engine in a car, add huge tires, and get going. But as a lot of enthusiasts can attest to, it’s not that simple. It takes a lot of money to build an engine that puts down a ton of power while staying reliable enough to make multiple passes. If this video shows us one thing, though, it’s that some engines have parts that don’t need to be modified.

1320video attended the Street Car Takeover in Indianapolis and found an interesting Fox Body Mustang. Why was it so intriguing? Well for one – sorry Ford fans, it has a 5.3-liter V8 from a Chevrolet truck. Thanks to that engine, the Mustang is the stock bottom end record holder for any car with a 5.3 liter motor.

That’s right, this engine still retains its stock bottom end. And that’s not the only stock component on the engine. As the owner states in the video, the engine still retains its factory crank rods, pistons, and cylinder heads. That’s pretty impressive, especially as the vehicle’s capable of running the quarter mile in 7.91 seconds at 173.61 mph. Not bad for what the owner calls a “fun street car.”

To see the Mustang in action (and practically demolish every car it faces at the strip), watch the video above. And if you’re working on a drag-racing vehicle of your own, remember that you can still have a quick car without doing a total engine rebuild.
