Inside the 2015 Mustang’s Technology
In case you didn’t know, the new Mustang will be one of the most innovative pony cars ever, but Ford can’t take all the credit.
A number of the new technologies were developed in partnership with Ford suppliers, as highlighted in a Business Wire report.
For example, to help give the 2015 limited-edition 50th Anniversary Mustang some of its classic design cues, Ford worked with Magna International to create quarter windows consisting of an industry-first louvered glass instead of the traditional plastic or metal louver.
To create a more spacious cockpit and lighter model, Ford collaborated with Schuler and Midway to engineer the heaviest-gauge steel hydroformed A-pillar and roof rails possible. The partnership helped to increase the torsional stiffness of the car by 28 percent while pulling off an even lighter body weight.
Regardless of what you think about the new Mustang, it certainly is turning out to be a lesson in what’s possible when it comes to new innovations.
