1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R Pops Up on Craigslist

The Mustang Source - 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R

Rare, low-mileage, limited-edition Mustang deserves so much more than a Craigslist posting.

We’ve seen our fair share of cool cars on Craigslist, good deals and bad. The free listing site is even our favorite go-to when liquidating cars around our own place when the time comes. When we ran across a listing for a 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R we had to take a look.

For those who don’t recall, this was the race-prepped Mustang Cobra. That means a 351 Windsor with GT40 heads under the hood, and a 20-gallon fuel cell in back. The Cobra R made 300 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. Less of everything else, too. Weight savings measures meant Ford removed the rear seat, radio, and air conditioning. Just 250 were made, and this one is claimed to be number 40.

That top picture we lifted from Ford Performance’s history site. Not because the Cobra R listed is anything less than perfect. Not the case at all. Number 40 has just 147 miles on the odometer and is, “still in the factory wrap with all original stickers and markings on it.” Not bad, especially considering the nearly $50,000 asking price. That price seems to reflect the low miles, as other Cobra R examples we found in a brief search were listed in the $30,000 ballpark, and had 2,700 and 4,600 miles.

Back to 40, this appears to be an excellent opportunity for someone who has no intent to drive their Cobra R, as you’re unlikely to find another with such low miles or such complete records. Sadly, the owner seems to have taken less time taking pictures than writing the ad. We’re really just disappointed because we love looking at fun cars. Though some are poorly framed, the ones that aren’t are pretty washed out. Let us know what you think about this Mustang Cobra R by heading over to the Forums.
