Mustang Shelby GT350 Targa: A Car We Wish We Had

Shelby GT350 Targa

We can’t actually call it a Targa. Porsche coined the term in 1966 and owns the copyright. But, what the hell, this is one seriously gorgeous Shelby GT350 Targa.

As no one, certainly no one in their right mind, would cut the roof off their brand new Shelby, this is an obvious Photoshop job. For further proof, below is the original photo. Still, we’re in absolute love with Chip Smith‘s idea of having a sliver of roof come off, allowing our lustrous locks to blow in the wind. Even better, leaving the B-pillar intact gives some structural rigidity that would be lost if said car were made into a convertible – something Ford engineers seemingly wanted to avoid, per Road & Track.

Porsche, Ferrari, and Chevy (Corvette) can’t have all the fun. The drama in aesthetics is greatly accentuated by having the roof missing – especially if it is just a portion. Let us not forget, also, the sound of the glorious flat-plane V-8 would be amplified. Imagine yourself canyon-carving, sound bouncing off rock, and reverberating back to your ears — all while the sun is shining down and warming your face. Pretty great, right?

We probably won’t be seeing a Shelby GT350 Targa anytime soon, but we can be forever hopeful, so forever hopeful we will be.
