For what seems like months, we’ve all been waiting for something, anything to leak out of Ford about the upcoming Mustang GT350R. Every little morsel of information has brought the car closer and closer to its full-on launch, but we were definitely not prepared for what was announced this morning.

According to Ford, the company will only build 37 GT350Rs for the 2015 model year. While this at first glance sounds ridiculously stupid, the number actually coincides with the original number of GT350Rs that Carroll Shelby first built for Ford. So, there’s definitely precedence here.

What’s also interesting about the announcement today is that Ford will only build 100 regular GT350s for the 2015 model year. And of those 100, 50 will be equipped with the Tech Package, and 50 with the Track Package. So spec’ing your Mustang GT350 and GT350R is definitely out of the question for the first run of the car.

While next year’s batch of cars hasn’t been decided yet, the number of track focused Mustangs will definitely be more than the 137 built for this year. What also hasn’t been released yet are the final horsepower numbers, which will most likely be announced closer to the launch of the car this summer. Stay tuned.
