An S650 Mustang with 5,000 miles on it for half off sounds like the deal of a lifetime. There’s just one catch – it’s been wrecked.

Ever since the car shortages of 2020, deals on new cars have been few and far between. Regardless, finding a great deal on a brand new model is almost unheard of, especially when it comes to sports cars. But what if you could get your hands on a brand new S650 Mustang GT for half off with just 5,000 miles on the odometer?

That’s just what happened to YouTuber vTuned garage. Of course, there’s a catch – the poor Atlas Blue GT has suffered some serious damage in its short life. It’s a good thing that vTuned garage has a new workshop to rebuild it in.

From the looks of things, the Mustang slid sideways into a pole on the passenger side. When it hit, it hit hard, crunching the rocker panel, door, and even buckling the roof slightly. The seat and side curtain airbags deployed as well. However, these components may be shared with the outgoing S550 Mustang. That means that they may actually not be all that hard to get ahold of. The unique dash and quarter panels are thankfully unharmed.

Digging Into a Disaster

There’s further damage to the left front corner, which includes suspension damage and a cracked oil cooler. That raises some concerns about the health of the engine – was it run without oil? First, vTuned garage washes the car to get the accumulated Copart dust off of it before moving it inside with a forklift for further inspection. If all goes according to plan, this six-speed S650 will replace his current daily, an automatic S550.

While removing damaged components, it’s discovered that the only damage to the passenger side front end is a bent tie rod. Curiously, on the driver’s side, the tie rod is more or less straight, but it’s been popped out of its socket joint. Since the new S650 parts are backordered, he’ll use S550 tie rods temporarily. They may not be the exact right parts, but they will work for moving the car around temporarily.

Of greater concern is the lack of oil in the engine. There’s barely any in the sump when he checks after replacing the oil cooler. However, after refilling the oil, the Mustang seems to be about as healthy as can be. How’s that for durability?

We’re eager to see the next steps in this restoration, and you can bet that it will be one awesome daily driver when it’s all done.
