Very Special Roush Stage 3 Mustang Unveiled at Monterey Car Week

With 710 supercharged horsepower under the hood, this Gulf Racing-themed Roush Mustang is sure to turn heads and spin tires.

On August 14, Roush Performance unveiled one very special Stage 3 Mustang as part of the Monterey Car Week festivities. The 700-plus horsepower supercharged Mustang was custom painted in blue and orange, the iconic livery of Gulf Racing, similar to another one we wrote about earlier this week.

The car was specially prepared by Roush Performance for Wade Kawasaki, who oversees Legendary Companies. Legendary Companies handles several large automotive aftermarket brands such as Coker Tire. It’s good to see that Kawasaki is a Mustang fan – work must be very fun for him.

Starting with a 5.0 Mustang GT, Roush added their TVS R2650 supercharger, a cold air intake, and an active exhaust system. The Roush Active Exhaust System features four user-selectable modes for various driving conditions and to suit driver preferences.

All of these modifications are good for 710 horsepower and 610 lb/ft of torque. That’s more than enough to punish the wide rear tires and keep up with just about anything on the street.

In addition to the custom Gulf Racing paint by SpeedKore Performance Group, this wild Mustang features Roush’s trademark body modifications. Those include the Roush R8 Aero body kit and carbon fiber chin and rear spoilers. Other custom touches include carbon fiber mirrors and side vents from SpeedKore.

A set of staggered 20″ wheels were made just for this car by Wheel Vintiques, with an 8.5″ width up front and a steamroller-esque 11″ width in the rear. Wheel Vintiques, one of the companies owned by Legendary Companies, designed the wheels to resemble those seen on the Le Mans-winning Ford GT 40 that originally wore the Gulf Racing livery seen on this car.

Inside, the interior was treated to custom upholstery that matches the exterior. You’ll also find a Sikky handbrake, designed for drifting. I guess when you run a tire company, you can burn as much rubber as you want!

While regular folks like you or I won’t be able to buy this car at our local Ford dealer, the Roush Stage 3 package and many of the other upgrades can be purchased through participating dealers.
