Tennessee Ford Dealer Offers Gulf Racing Heritage Edition Mustang
High-performance, Gulf Racing edition Mustang pays tribute to an iconic racing livery used on some of the world’s finest supercars.
There is perhaps no more iconic racing livery than the light blue and orange of Gulf Racing. The familiar color scheme has graced everything Porsches, McLarens, and Aston Martins. It’s also famously been applied to the Ford GT40.
One dealership, Brown Lee Ford in Morrisson, Tennessee, has decided to offer a special edition Mustang that pays tribute to the famous Gulf Racing colors. The car will be called, appropriately enough, the Gulf Heritage Edition Mustang.
Each example starts as a Mustang GT, and the package is available with either a manual or automatic transmission, and can be ordered as a coupe or convertible. Just 119 will be built in total.
Unlike the Bullitt or the Shelby GT350 and GT500 Mustangs, the Gulf Heritage Edition isn’t built or supported in any way by Ford. However, Brown Lee Ford has the full approval of Gulf Racing, known to be notoriously protective of their unique, immediately recognizable colors.
The transformation from Mustang GT to Gulf Heritage Edition is fairly comprehensive. In addition to the light blue and orange Gulf Racing paint job, a carbon fiber lip kit lends the car an aggressive look, along with a lowered stance.
The car rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in aggressive Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber. Gulf Orange Brembo brake calipers sit behind the wheels at each corner.
Inside, buyers will be treated to Gulf-embroidered seat upholstery. They’ll also find an individually numbered plaque on the dashboard.
Additionally, there’s a similar plaque in the engine bay, which is host to a 3.0-liter Whipple Stage 2 supercharger system. Other performance upgrades include larger injectors, an air to water intercooler, and a high-flow air induction system. Each Gulf Heritage Edition is dyno-tuned and tested for peak performance—800 horsepower, 675 lb-ft of torque.
Clearly, this is far more than just a graphics package, and the price reflects that. The dealer’s website lists the Gulf Heritage Edition at $139,995, and we’re sure that price can go up depending on what options are selected for the base car. Still, even at that price we’re certain that each one will find a buyer.
