10 Ford Easter Eggs Teasing the 2018 Mustang
Anticipation overwhelms Mustang enthusiasts as Ford takes to Twitter. The long anticipated release of the 2018 Ford Mustang is being dangled like a carrot, and we're certainly chasing that carrot!
1. Teasing via Twitter
Mike Levine, Ford's Product Communication Manager of North America, has taken to Twitter with an Easter Egg hunt for the new specs on the new 2018 Mustang GT. He posted the pic above with the caption "Did you find the 2018 Easter Eggs in the all new 12 inch digital cluster?" Very cryptic, Mike, but let's see what we come up with.
2. 4 and 55
In the Twitter teaser, Levine showed a pic with the display reading gear 4 and 55 mph. Is this to suggest that the new GT will have 455 hp? This would be a bit of a jump from 435 hp from the previous GT. Also the 1964.5 on the digital display was a shout out to the OG Mustang, and the 289 miles to empty is interestingly enough the same exact number as the displacement of the 1965 Mustang's V8.
3. 2018 Shelby
In another image Levine posted, the numbers read gear 7 and 55 mph. This post was in reference to the new Shelby. Is this image suggesting 755 hp to compete with the new Camaro SS? The last Shelby had 667 hp, so it is not far fetched to think the newest would have more horsepower, right? Signs point to yes.
4. GO Speed Racer!
In this teaser the mph digital readout states 216 mph. Is this a prelude to the new GT's top speed? Consider that the new GT is being called a "super car" and that would be a seriously super top speed. Consider that the Charger Hellcat will top out at 204 mph under ideal conditions, so we have to assume the Mustang is more aerodynamic.
5. Illusions of Grandure
The new headlights have the appearance of small air intakes under the headlights. Do not be fooled by this illusion. The intakes under the headlights actually do not go anywhere, as far as we know, it's merely for looks.
6. Aerodynamics
Vertical slits on the lower part of the front fascia aren't brake ducts, they actually generate curtains of air that encircle the front wheels. This not only improves fuel economy but also boosts aerodynamics.
7. Automatic Transmission?!
The new GT boasts a 10 speed automatic transmission, interestingly enough. However, the standard issue is a 6 speed manual transmission. This is not a carry-over, though. it has a new twin disc clutch and a dual mass fly wheel.
8. Maximum Overdrive
The new GT also has new gearing. A shorter first gear and two overdrives not only create better fuel economy, but also improve acceleration.
9. Pony Button?
Does it increase horsepower? Does it release NOS? No, the pony button is a shortcut to performance functions in the instrument cluster, track apps, launch control, and the line lock function for ridiculously easy burnouts. Certainly a cool button, but not exactly what we were hoping for.
10. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
In a very touching story (and a great promotional event), Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson awarded a combat veteran with the "Go Further" award, and courtesy of Ford, gifts her with the new 2018 Mustang GT. This allowed the public an early opportunity to see the specs for the new Mustang.
