Texas Coffee and Cars Bans Mustangs Following Series of Incidents

Coffee and Cars Meet Texas

Coffee and Cars cites multiple incidents of burnouts and revving for its decision to temporarily ban Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers.

As Mustang fans, we’re treated to some pretty amazing camaraderie, cars, and experiences, more so than enthusiasts of many other models. However, there’s also a bit of a stereotype that goes along with being a Mustang fan, most notably, the fact that, well, quite a few owners have crashed their cars or just done silly things to show off for crowds in the past, with much video evidence floating around to support it. That – coupled with a series of incidents that have taken place recently – have now prompted Texas-based Coffee and Cars to go so far as to temporarily ban Mustangs from its events, as well as Camaros and Challengers.

“Due to this morning’s burnouts and revving, we will be temporarily banning all Mustang, Chargers & Camaros,” Coffee and Cars wrote on Instagram. “We keep asking for cooperation to reduce this behavior and we have signs posted. If this behavior continues we will be forced to only do Invitational Only Events. We have an Epic lineup for the end of the year Toy Drive. Please stop encouraging this behavior, spread the word please and thank you.”

Coffee and Cars didn’t go so far as to name or describe the specific incidents that have caused it to take such an extreme action, but did mention in another post that it doesn’t “want this gathering shut down as we have some special surprises planned,” which, as many of us know, has happened in the past. Turns out, large car meets that lead to select folks doing illegal things and potentially endangering the public as a result is typically frowned upon by law enforcement – not to mention people that aren’t into cars quite like we are.

Regardless, organizers are facing their fair share of backlash over this decision, as one might imagine. “Prejudice and bias have no place in car culture. You should be ashamed of your hateful actions against domestic car drivers,” one person wrote in response to the temporary ban, with another suggesting that event organizers should ban people that commit this type of behavior, not the types of models themselves. “I don’t drive like an idiot yet only because of the car I own I’m temporarily banned?” another stated. “And to think I used to go to every meet and spend my hard earned money on merch and toys to support the organization. All those videos and simple fix is to get the plates and report to PD. I won’t go to y’all’s meet ever again though don’t worry.”

In any event, this is certainly a difficult situation for everyone involved. On one hand, organizers are well aware that other meets have been banned or canceled over such unruly behavior, but we also can’t blame pony car fans for being angry that they’ve been once again lumped in a group with a small number of folks that don’t know how to act in a public setting. In any event, it’ll be interesting to see what comes of this “temporary” ban, as well as how long it might actually last.
