Is This Rendering the Next Mustang GT500?

Now that the GT350 and GT350R have been released, speculation about the GT500 has started to percolate. Though Ford hasn’t made any official announcement or unveiling, a new FordBlogs rendering might hint at the excitement of the GT500. Pictured above, this rendering shares a lot of the aggressive tones of the GT350, but there are some subtle differences.

One thing left to wonder is the form of powerplant that will be under the hood. There was some speculation earlier in the year that a 2017 GT500 could receive the EcoBoost V6 that currently propels the Ford GT. And with 600 horsepower, it certainly wouldn’t be lacking in speed. Though a bit less ‘Murica in style, the V6 EcoBoost has proven to be a potent, fast, and light engine.

All of this is still speculation, of course. The GT500 could perhaps receive a variant of the Cobra Jet engine, which would be perfectly fine for those who prefer to have a cylinder count divisible by 8. It may even incorporate some of the carbon fiber technology and lightweight components of the GT350, possibly catering toward those who like corners as well as straight line acceleration.

What direction do you think the GT500 will take?
