Real-World EcoBoost Mustang Numbers Dead On
How close does the real-world fuel economy for the EcoBoost Mustang come to those great EPA ratings?
Well, pretty darn close.
A recent Cars.com report found that during a 200 mile drive on the highway, the EcoBoost Mustang posted highway fuel economy numbers in the mid-30s mpg range while driving at 60-70 mph highway speeds. Add in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic during a busy holiday weekend, and the turbocharged four-banger averaged 27.2 mpg and 27.6 mpg during a 70-mile ride from Chicago, Illinois to Michigan City, Indiana, and back.
The official EPA rating for the 2.3-liter four-cylinder is 22/31/26 mpg city/highway/combined.
The report does note that driving the EcoBoost Mustang hard did cause the mileage to drop from 27.2 mpg to 22.8 mpg, but that’s certainly to be expected.
Either way, it’s still pretty impressive for a car rated at 310-horsepower.
