Chris Harris Drives the New Mustang

The Mustang, historically one of America’s best selling sports cars, hasn’t been well-loved by those on the other side of the pond. For one, the size of the thing doesn’t really bode well with tiny European villages. Nor had it shined in terms of fuel efficiency, important given Europe’s much higher fuel prices. Add to that, it was never made with the steering wheel on the right side.

Chris Harris is getting some seat time in the new GT, though, and he’s saying Europe might have a bit of an early Christmas present on its hands. The new platform, featuring a Mustang first independent rear suspension, he lauds as the best iteration yet. But things still aren’t perfect. The tight feel of some of its German counterparts is not found, but it’s replaced with personality and simplicity in its approach to going fast.

There are more focused cars out there, but one thing can’t be beat: the price. Priced right in the mid-thirties (in British Pounds), it undercuts those previously mentioned rivals by a long shot. And now with it officially being available to the public instead of via private import, it can really gain some ground in popularity. Will it be a grand slam? That’s about as likely as a Brit to use that term. It’ll sell, no doubt, but Europeans tend to lean more towards sophistication.
