Here’s the Official 2019 Mustang Shelby GT500 Teaser Image

2019 Mustang Shelby GT500

Ford delivers us a bird’s eye view of the new king of the muscle car hill. And it sure looks the business.

For months, the worst kept secret in the world of automobiles has been the existence of the 2019 Mustang Shelby GT500. We’ve lulled over spy shots, closely examined the loosely accurate leaked specs, and admired a menacing front end shot. But now, finally, we’ve received our first official image of Ford’s latest and greatest snake. And this time, it shows the entire car. Kinda.

At least, this undisguised image of a classic blue with white stripes 2019 Mustang Shelby GT500 shows the entire car from a bird’s eye view. But that’s all the proof we need to know that this thing looks the business. The massive slotted hood vent is even wider than those iconic dual stripes. Aside from looking awesome, it promises to siphon massive amounts of air into the engine bay.

Out back, you can’t help but notice a large carbon fiber wing that’s clearly bigger than the one adorning the current GT350. Together with that previous front end teaser pic, it’s easy to see that this will be the most aggressively styled Mustang yet. The wide open front end, with its massive air intakes and prominent Cobra badge, is not the sort of thing the competition will want to see in their rear view mirror.

Especially since all of that air aims to keep a supercharged, 700+ horsepower V8 cool under that aggressive hood. Output looks likely to exceed both the Camaro ZL1 and the much-heralded Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcats. Heck, it might even get up there in the Corvette ZR1 (750 hp) range. In terms of gearboxes, we’d personally opt for the traditional manual transmission. But a lightning-quick automatic looks to be in the works for those who want the quickest possible acceleration.

No word on when we’ll see the entire 2019 Mustang Shelby GT500. Or receive any final numbers. But the way things are progressing, we wouldn’t be surprised if Ford pulled the sheets off by the end of 2018. At the very latest, perhaps January’s Detroit Auto Show. But it won’t be much longer before the new king of the muscle car hill claims its rightful crown.
