Mustang’s Bentley Continental GT Conversion May Be a Bad Idea

Would you pay $50,000 for a fake Bentley when you could find a real one, pre-owned for around the same price? Of course not.

If there ever were a perfect example of what happens when you take an idea too far, this would be it.

The thought of someone attempting to turn a Mustang into a Bentley Continental GT seems inconceivable, but actually seeing the thing is far worse. That certainly would explain why the seller of this converted 2005 Mustang GT has been unable to sell the car, after initially posting it on eBay more than a year ago.

Then again, it could be the fact that the owner was initially trying to fetch $65,000 for the car. According to CarBuzz, the current asking price for the Bentley replica is $50,000, which is still only half of the $100,000 the owner claims to have spent on the build.

So where exactly did all that money go? Well, for starters, the Mustang/Bentley is equipped with a 550-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 under the hood, which is roughly the same amount of horsepower as the V12 engine featured in the 2005 Continental GT. The Mustang-to-Bentley conversion also includes a Tokico suspension and 373 rear end, 20-inch alloy wheels, and Brembo brakes — all intended to enhance the car’s overall performance.

Other premium upgrades include Bentley headlights, taillights, brake lights, and a Breitling clock, as well as a Bentley shifter handle. Capping off the look is an original widebody kit, along with 4-inch stainless-steel quad exhaust tips.

Inside, the replica has been upgraded with Italian leather seats, 8- and 10-inch touchscreens, and a Rockford Fosgate sound system.

Even more interesting, the car only has 8,400 miles on the odometer. Who knows? It might be enough to convince someone that it’s worth the money. After all, an authentic Bentley Continental GT (brand-new) will run you $300,000 or more. Interested?
