Tater Tot Leads to Mustang Rat Nest

The Curious Case of a Tater Tot and Some Chewed up Engine Wires

As fun as it was to write that headline, it was likely much less fun for this unfortunate Mustang owner, and his terrible, horrible, no good, very-bad day.

It all started when TMS member puma1552 first discovered a tater tot resting innocently between his Mustang’s windshield and hood.

“Someone must be trolling me,” he thought. It turns out he wasn’t exactly wrong, but that someone was actually something much worse.

Following the incriminating tater tot, puma1552 noticed a nest made of sticks and trash. Uh oh. The innocent pile of trash was well assembled, and likely belonged to a rat, presumably the proud owner of the tater tot.

Now, if the story ended here, we could all exhale, knowing that Mustang engine bays make decent vacation homes for rodents. And that rats have no problem eating dinner directly next to your battery.

Unfortunately, things get worse. Puma1552 soon discovered that the temperature gauge wasn’t showing the correct reading. Which led to a complete inspection of the engine. Wires, battery components, and headliner had all been chewed up by the new tenant, causing damage to the car’s internal systems and leaving the Puma1552 rather sad.

To date, the culprit has yet to be found, but you can follow the thread for updates. And while you’re there, be sure to wish Puma1552 luck in getting his Mustang back in order.
