Mustang Cobra Destroys Clutch, Now What?

When your Cobra kills its clutch, what’s your next step?

When major components on our cars take their final breath, it’s time to reevaluate our plans for a build. The domino effect of replacing parts after adding horsepower can be never-ending. Depending on the situation, stock parts either wear out or are weakened under the added strain.

We’ve seen too many cases where added power isn’t properly supported. Sometimes, a crankshaft or other crucial part is sacrificed. But usually, it’s a wear part like the clutch that bites the dust. And that’s exactly what happened to this Cobra.

In this video, Mustang Lifestyle tackles a Cobra owner’s clutch replacement. To put it mildly, the stock one couldn’t handle his mods. But, there are several options to weigh in replacing it. He’s aware of the risks of using standard parts on a car you’re using to push the limits of horsepower. And he plans to get this Cobra to 700 ponies. The decision on which clutch to install is then weighed with this goal in mind.

The owner also has to take his driving style into account. He likes to slip and abuse the clutch a little bit. So, he wants to be sure his choice reflects his driving habits. We’ve all debated which parts to install on our cars, but we also have to keep in mind how far our future selves want to push the build. Will the next 100 horsepower be enough to satisfy us? Here at The Mustang Source, we love to see modified pony cars. Is there a somewhat final horsepower number you can be happy with? Let us know in the comments below.
