Can An Big Turbo EcoBoost Mustang Satisfy Your Driving Desires?

Can an EcoBoost four with a big turbo match a V8-powered GT?

Think of a little brother bulking up to get back at his older brother for the years of embarrassing choke holds. When we buy a lesser model car and modify it, aren’t we just begging to beat the next model up? The turbocharged EcoBoost Mustang is the perfect example of this, and an increasing number of owners are modifying theirs to fight the GT. The advantage the little four-cylinder has is its factory turbocharger. This makes adding more boost or upgrading the turbo an easy way to get more power. But is it worth modifying the stock one to save on the initial purchase cost disparity?

In this video, LEP Automotive chats with the owner of a 2015 EcoBoost Mustang with the performance pack. The owner, John, has added a larger single turbo to his Mustang.

The Precision 5862 turbo brings his Mustang’s power close to the level of the V8-powered GT. John estimates 350 horsepower to the wheels, which puts it in the neighborhood of the 2017 GT’s 435 horses. Plus, the EcoBoost’s lighter engine gives him a slight weight advantage. So, does this allow him to keep up with the big dogs?

He says his car keeps up with some 5.0s, but his goal is to beat all stock V8-powered Mustangs. And isn’t that the goal of any little brother: Craving payback yet eager to show big brother who’s boss?

One thing’s for sure: The burnout John does in his Mustang is pretty boss. So, Let us know in comments below. Do you modify the little brother EcoBoost or just pay more for the stock big brother Mustang GT?
