Motion R Bodywork Brings More Mustang to the Mach-E

Debate on the use of the Mustang name carries on. However, new custom bodywork lends more sports car looks to the Mach-E.

We know, we know, the Mach-E is not a real Mustang. In fact, it is about as far away from a V8 powered car as you can get. We have heard those complaints since the vehicle debuted. That being said, the Mach-E will have some decent performance chops. Especially when the GT versions start to hit the streets. Your 5.0 might be looking at Mach-E taillights on the dragstrip. But just straight-line acceleration does not a Mustang make.

It should handle, sound, feel and look like a performance car to carry that Mustang name. Motion R Design has developed a body kit that will go a long way towards addressing the looks department.

Looks are subjective of course but the factory Mach-E looks decent but not overly sporty. It can certainly use a bit more visual punch. Visual punch is exactly what UK-based design firm Motion R specializes in. A large part of their portfolio to this point has focused on the Ford Transit vans.

They are going to apply that expertise to the Mach-E with their recently announced custom kit. This alone may not convince you that the Mach-E can rightfully use the Mustang name. However, it sure as heck looks a lot better.

Changes start right up front with a new grille. The new grille has the Motion R logo proudly displayed over a set of strakes. This grille mimics the look of a car powered by traditional internal combustion. This alone helps the Mach-E look less like electric appliance and more like a performance car.

This theme continues below the grille with a set of large air intakes. This new front-end flows into a set of enlarged fender flares front and rear with large side skirts in between. Out back there is a sizable rear spoiler and rear diffuser. Rounding out the exterior look is a set of Quantum44 Q44 Flow Forged wheels. If you saw this version in your rearview, it would be much more intimidating compared to the stock unit.

Motion R is also going to offer some interior updates as well. Though no pictures were provided there is talk of a Nappa leather option with carbon fiber door panels. A racy flat-bottom steering wheel is also going to be on offer. Overall, this should spice up the Mach-E nicely. What we don’t yet know is when all of these goodies will be available or how much they will cost.

The Mach-E has just started landing in customers driveways, and the fact that there is already a comprehensive upgrade kit for it bodes well for aftermarket support. That aftermarket support is one of the most appealing aspects of Mustang ownership. It seems like that will continue even with the electric versions.

Do you feel that with this kit the Mach-E is more deserving of the Mustang name? Or does this not change your mind in the least? If you were already a fan of the Mach-E would you be interested in this kit? We would love to hear your thoughts. Please share with us in The Mustang Source forums.
