Holley Equipment Makes This Stock Block Fox Run 10's

A stock block, 17 PSI of boost and a 6-speed stick shift transmission make this Holley controlled Fox a rocket.

As enthusiasts, we are driven by obstacles. If a car isn’t running right, we take joy in diving into it and figuring out what’s wrong. Then we fix it. It’s a cycle of perpetual joy. Unless that process comes right before an event. Tim Casto experienced such a dilemma at the Holley NMRA Ford Fest. More specifically, hig Fox couldn’t even drive itself on to the trailer.

Trying to find a solution for a stock Mustang is simple enough, but Casto’s Mustang is far from it. It uses a stock block 302, but 17 PSI is added to the intake through a Precision 75/76 turbo. To fuel this new setup, a Holley Dominator EFI was utilized. Ignition finally came from Holley, too, and would prove to be a fix for the car’s no-start issues, too.

In all, it created a competent car for drag racing. Power to the wheels is about 680 when run on the corn fuel. But it takes a good driver to get the most out of a stick shift car. Casto’s times during the Holley Ford Fest started off in the 10’s, and would only improve from there. According to Holley, Casto initially qualified with the first of three passes coming in at 10.62 seconds at Beech Bend Raceway Park.

Speed would build, with a 10.52 and 10.48 pair of runs completing Casto’s qualifying. Casto would go on to out-gun other Mustangs and Capris during each successive shootout. But the car Casto would race in the finals was easily an 8 second car. The start was handicapped based on previous times, meaning Casto would need to have a solid launch in order to not get overrun at the end of the strip. Casto’s fastes run would bag him the win, as he crossed the line at 10.27 at 136.81.

After failing to qualify the year before, having a car that wouldn’t start the night before the event, and having a big spin on track during the event, Castro was more than relieved. But he’s not done there. Casto said, “there’s a reason for me to come back and defend next year,” so we’ll be seeing more of this Fox in the future.
