Mach-E makes its show debut in L.A. with a stunning blue GT and Premium model front and center at Ford’s display.

The 2019 L.A. Auto Show is officially open to the press November 18-21. So of course, we here at The Mustang Source have been perusing the show’s many fine offerings all week. Mainly because this year’s event promised something extra special for Mustang fans – the show debut of the new Mach-E. So it was really no surprise that Ford placed both a Premium and GT trim Mach-E front and center in their massive display for everyone to see in the flesh.

Obviously, not everyone is a fan of the fact that Ford affixed its iconic Mustang nameplate to an all-electric SUV. But personally, we think the brand’s Tesla-fighter looked pretty fantastic under the L.A. Auto Show lights. Particularly the Grabber Blue GT, which features a blacked-out grille and trim. It looks sleek and modern, ready to pounce on any unsuspecting challengers. And with a claimed mid 3-second 0-60 capability, it most certainly is. If we were to spec out a Mach-E to buy ourselves, this would be it.

The electrifying blue GT was joined by a Premium Mach E, which will likely be the volume seller. With a starting price just over $50k, it’s actually got quite a bit of content for the money. That includes goodies like active park assist, a B&O 10-speaker sound system, and heated seats and steering wheel. It also has a hands free, foot activated tailgate for all those folks who have to carry the groceries in one hand and the kids in another.

High performance and/or EV SUVs are hot right now, and automakers are happy to oblige the buying public. Thus, the Mustang Mach-E fills a major hole in Ford’s lineup. The Blue Oval wanted to offer something exciting for utility fans, thus the inclusion of the Mustang nameplate and certain styling cues. Hardcore Mustang fans may not like it, of course. But so long as we can still buy our V8-powered GTs, we’re good with it.

If you feel the same way, you’ll be happy to know that soon you can catch Ford’s Mach-E up close and personal as well. The 2019 L.A. Auto Show opens up to the public November 22-December 1. In the meantime, we’ll be bringing you all the hottest rides we come across, so stay tuned!
