Ken Block Drives the Mustang Hoonicorn V2 One Last Time

Hoonicorn V2

With Block and Ford ending their relationship it is time to give one of the greatest Mustangs ever built, the Hoonicorn V2, a proper send off.

Ken Block may have started his rally racing career with Subaru, but when you think of him and the Hoonigan brand you think Ford. Block and Ford have been partners for over a decade. During that time there have been 19 race wins and 17 additional podium finishes for Block.

There has also been a fleet of Ford vehicles built to be featured in the Gymkhana series of films. The Gymkhana videos on YouTube that feature Ford vehicles have racked up over a half-billion views. To say the partnership has been a success would be an understatement. However, like all good things, that partnership must come to an end. In 2021 Block has cut ties with Ford and is free to move on to any vehicle he likes.

Before he rides off into the sunset there is a bit of unfinished business. Of all of the amazing Ford builds, perhaps the most impressive is the Hoonicorn V2. Based on a 1965 Mustang and pumping out 1,400 turbocharged horsepower this might be the craziest vehicle in Block’s Ford collection. It was featured in Climbkhana: Pikes Peak as well as a number of other videos.

Now it is time to say goodbye. Block recently posted a video on his YouTube channel of himself and his crew recalling their favorite Hoonicorn V2 moments. Then Block steps into the car one final time and does what he does best.

Of course, Hoonicorn V2 had a predecessor, the original Hoonicorn. The original was a great car in its own right. When Block is asked which is his favorite, V1 or V2, he can’t answer. “It’s like making me pick my favorite children. It’s not nice.” Says Block. The crew has a tough time deciding as well. They also have a tough time agreeing on what the top three moments of the Hoonicorn V2 car were.

When dealing with a car that had so many amazing moments this is totally understandable. However, one moment made it on everyone’s list. Pikes Peak’s Evo corner. “That shot is what I dreamt about. Going to Pikes Peak and mimicking what I saw in the ‘80s and early ‘90s of what rally cars did there on that mountain.” Block explains.

What else stands out for Block in that car? Doing donuts around the iconic Randy’s Donuts was another favorite moment. Rounding out the top three was shooting Gymkhnana 10 in Detroit. Specifically, doing moving donuts out on Woodward avenue around Brian Scotto while he was riding along on a Segway. It was this favorite moment that Block decided he wanted to recreate for the farewell, at least for now, to Hoonicorn V2. Scotto grabbed his Segway, Block climbed in the car, and the next thing you know there is a cloud of smoke.

Early in the video Block says “Today is my final time driving this car, so I think we should hoon it one last time.” It seems unlikely that this will be the last time that Block climbs into Hoonicorn V2, but we may not see it for a while. In the meantime, it will be exciting to see what he builds next. It will not be a Ford but knowing Block it is going to be something outrageous. Can he ever build something that can top Hoonicorn V2? It will be a tall order, but while we wait we can relive the best moments from this amazing Mustang. What are your favorite moments? Let us know in The Mustang Source forums.
