Ken Block Builds Awesome Drift Mustang For His Daughter's Birthday

With some help from Vanilla Ice, Ken Block gives his daughter a birthday gift to remember.

What was your favorite, most memorable birthday gift growing up? Maybe you got a Nintendo 64, a new baseball glove, or a really cool radio controlled car. If you’re Ken Block‘s kid, you celebrate your 14th birthday with a Vanilla Ice-inspired drift ‘Stang. We’re not ashamed to admit that we’re a little jealous.

Ken Block’s daughter, Lia, is no spoiled brat. At 14 years old, she’s already a talented driver. While she’s still a couple of years away from being able to take her Mustang on the road, she might be able to get some track time under her dad’s careful supervision.

Of course, with a dad like Ken Block, you’re bound to be a threat behind the wheel. Block started the project off with a very ratty Fox Mustang GT convertible, and with the help of Carcaine Supply, transformed it into the beautiful white drift machine you see here.

Rollin’ in My 5.0

There’s definitely an early ’90s influence going on here, but with a modern twist. Lia was totally surprised by the car, and the video message from Vanilla Ice was just ice-ing on the birthday cake (sorry). Vanilla Ice explains that he got into Mustangs because he was always getting beaten by them in his IROC-Z Camaro, so he decided to switch sides in the late ’80s/early ’90s pony car wars.

Best of all, she’s going to get drift lessons from some of Block’s friends. We remember what our parents went through teaching us how to drive, so we understand why he’s farming that task out to someone else.

The engine is mostly stock – this car is for a new driver, after all – but there’s a lot going on underneath. The suspension was treated to all of the Maximum Motorsports goodies the crew could throw at it, as well as a Scotdi angle kit for drifting. It rides on a beautiful set of Rotiform wheels with Toyo tires. We’d be proud to call this Mustang our own. Happy birthday!
