GT500 Sets Stock Pulley Record On Pump Gas
Impressively stock GT500 runs a 9-second quarter-mile on the stock supercharger pulley, 93 octane pump gas, and a tune.
We’ve seen plenty of crazy stories involving the newest GT500. However, many of the videos and stories you see about GT500s making eye-watering fast passes at a drag strip involve hefty modifications. Supercharger pulley upgrades, bigger injectors, E85, racing fuel, and a whole host of other upgrades are behind many of these passes. However, this Mustang stands out in the crowd.
We get the lowdown on this car in a recent video on the Drag Racing and Car Stuff Youtube channel. It’s pretty unsuspect, considering its mostly stock appearance. The only giveaway that it’ll be making some pretty substantial passes is the set of Mickey Thompson slicks on the back. However, the most impressive part of this GT500 isn’t what is done to it. Instead, its outstanding trait is what modifications it doesn’t have.
Impressively Unmodified with Impressive Quarter Mile Times
Under the hood, the only modification you’ll find is an SPE cold air intake. Other than that, this engine is just a run-of-the-mill GT500 with the Carbon Fiber Track Pack. It does have Lethal Performance exhaust components and a tune from Palm Beach Dyno. However, that is where the mod list ends. It’s got stock injectors, the stock supercharger pulley, and everything else left alone.
We have seen many impressive passes on the drag strip with 100% stock GT500s. In fact, even on the stock tires, they have been known to run 10-second ETs. So, adding simple modifications like an intake, tune, and some drag radials may not seem like it’s going to make much of a difference. However, a little goes a long way. Obviously, the most beneficial of this modification list at the drag strip is likely to be the tires. Without grip, the extra power from a tune and intake isn’t going to do you much good. That being said, what does this simple combination net in terms of performance?
Simple Modifications Can Net Massive Gains at the Track.
The first pass shown on the video is a cool 10.12 seconds at a whopping 134.52 miles an hour. That is certainly nothing short of fast for a largely stock car. However, according to the video, with this same setup on 93-octane pump gas, the owner of the Mustang ran a 9.99-second and 137 miles per hour pass. That’s pretty impressive!
The video continues with the GT500 returning to the track with an E85 tune. However, according to the owner, the air quality made the E85 upgrade negligible. This is reflected nicely in his time slips, as he managed to run a 9.99 once again.
This is a great car to keep eyes out for, as it will likely break the stock pulley record once again with better air on the E85 tune. The amount of performance you can squeeze from a largely stock GT500 continues to impress us over and over!
