Constantine Mustang Is the World’s Quickest Domestic Stick Shift

Joel Steele’s 2012 Boss Constantine Mustang set multiple records at the 2021 FL2K thanks to its race-spec powertrain and lightweight VFM fiberglass body construction.

Ford is stealing the spotlight at SEMA 2021 with 40 custom offerings. Not to be outdone by the Blue Oval Brand, a recent That Racing Channel video features a stick-shift Mustang that churns out close to 2000 horsepower. What’s unique about this monstrous Mustang is that it uses a factory Ford block that’s paired to a speed manual gearbox. The car’s name is Constantine, and it was purpose-built as a no-nonsense drag racer by Joel Steele.

The project started its life as a dual rail 2012 Mustang. The drag racer retains the original firewall and unfilled water jackets still even after Steele’s major overhaul. The entire ensemble only weighs around 2750 lbs. Javier from That Racing Channel got a chance to sit down with Joel Steele and discuss his Constantine Mustang.

“We built the car for one purpose, and that was to shatter the record. First time that we controllably made a pass was Wednesday night. Made some clean passes in it, and I realized that we were on to something and go out in the first round of qualifying, run a 7.30 and some change,” said Steele. He further added, “We’re still in a 30 pound (30-40 PSI) range on the boost and uh 11 degrees timing.”

The Coyote powerplant of Constantine Mustang was tuned by TMC performance. The motor also gets JC customs CNC valve covers and Plasmaman billet intake.

Thanks to its two 6-second passes, Steele’s Constantine Mustang was able to set multiple records at the 2021 FL2K event. The car’s quarter-mile run was recorded at 6.95 seconds with an exit speed of 202 MPH. As a result of this, Steele’s 2012 Boss Mustang is now the first stick-shift domestic drag racer to make it into the sixes.

The car also gets 16 Holley injectors which allow Renegade methanol to flow into the intake. The boost comes from a pair of 76/83 mm turbochargers that get TurboSmart blow-off-valves and wastegates. Steele’s drag-spec 2012 Boss Mustang only has 8000 miles on the odometer.

This is not the first TRC video to demonstrate the performance capability of Ford’s lauded pony car. Back in May, we discussed another 2000 HP Mustang drag racer called the “Snot Rocket” Mustang that ran the quarter-mile in just 7.1 seconds.
