Two of the four Mustang Shelby GT500 models have been recovered, but two are still out there somewhere.

There are a couple of different types of criminals in the world – those that play it safe and do things in a way that minimizes their chances of getting caught, or going hog wild with brazen, styling ways of stealing things. The latter applies to a group of criminals that successfully made off with four Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 models, but this wasn’t some sort of dealership heist. Rather, the thieves stole those GT500s straight from the source – the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan, where they were built.

According to the News-Herald, the thieves gained access to the plant at around 10:50 pm Sunday night, then proceeded to smash one through a security gate at the plant, which presumably sprung all four. It’s an insane thing, and even crazier when we consider the fact that there’s no video footage of the incident. How is that even possible in the world we live in today?

Regardless, things didn’t go so well for all of the thieves after they made their Hollywood-style getaway. Two of the stolen Mustang Shelby GT500 models were quickly found by police on I-75 in Brownstown Township and the city of Southgate. Problem is, both were unoccupied, and one had already sustained heavy front end damage, which we presume was caused by smashing through the gate. No word on the condition of the other car, however.

The other two GT500s, along with the whereabouts of the (at least) four thieves remains a mystery, for now. Police say the two missing Mustangs are both black, though no other description is currently available. Regardless, this crime is certainly a bold one, though it makes one wonder if the thieves had done their homework ahead of time and figured out that there were no security cameras in that particular area of the plant. Then, it would just be a case of waiting for the right moment to pull this off.
