Went to the muffler shop today...

So i went to the muffler shop today to ask for some estimates to make my stang have a dual setup..

He told me it would cost 300 dollars for everything, this includes the midpipe, and two flowmaster 40 series mufflers and labor.

The thing i don't like about this guy is that he keeps telling me that its illegal to have an H-pipe or X-pipe installed, because they might mess up something with the cats, i told him that the stock GT mustang has H-pipes on them, and that the cats can be taken off an replaced with an h-pipe or x with no cats, so how can it be illegal? I think he's just lazy that he doesnt want to install an H-pipe.

I'm gonna try another muffler shop tomorrow, and if it doesnt work out, i may just buy a bolt on bassani bx axle back.

Yep, he's trying to you. It won't do anything to the cats. Sounds like he doesn't want to do any welding.

technically removing your cats is illegal, so hes right about that. Even if you live in an area that doesnt require emissions testing, its federal law that for 8 years 80k miles you cant tamper with them.

As far as the hpipe goes, perfectly legal.

If I understand the law in California, you can only replace the cats if they are worn out or otherwise not functioning properly. To swap perfectly working cats for high flow cats would be in violation of the law. Confirmation on this?

forgot we do not really have that here in texas just car inspection and licence and the car inspection checks for cats on the first time you go there but after that they just give the sticker and unless a cop gets tough and looks no one will know

some states are trying to pass laws that would basically make any changes to the exhaust system illegal!!

removing your cats is Illegal everywhere. You have to wait 8 yrs 80k miles on a street driven/registered vehicle. Just because your local inspection doesnt check for em, doesnt make it legal. Its a federal law, which means your state doesnt choose, the federal government does.
