From the (short) test of the V6 vert (auto) in April R&T:

0-60 in 6.8 seconds

1/4 mile in 15.1 seconds @ 92.7 mph

About the V6: "It revs pretty well, with a decent exhaust note... one could almost mistake it for a smaller version of the V-8."

About the tires: "...the all-season 215-section tires squeal like the front row at a Britney Spears concert."

You have to get test results on a V6 5-speed manual coupe..

So are those numbers for the auto version of the V6? It must be the manual version?

He said it was for the auto version, and a vert to boot. They must know how to launch an auto to get times like that out of a V6 vert.

thats the same 0-60 they got for the coupe isnt it? But .2 seconds quicker in the quarter? that dont make a whole lot of sense, especially for it being the vert.

Nah, if it was Dale Jr. he would have spun her on purpose so he could get a caution flag, pit, and change those squealing tires.

They said they tested an auto because of "scheduling conflicts." They also said that it spun one rear tire all the way through first gear! The V6 really needs a limited-slip diff. I'd really like to see the numbers on a V6 manual...

C&D got a V6 auto coupe to 60 in 6.9 seconds, so these numbers sort of suprised me - R&T always seems to post longer times than some of the other mags. Maybe the engine was broken in more on this car.

Yeah, I guess you're right. They tested a coupe, and took pictures of a vert. Sounds like something some other car magazines (not to mention any names like Motor Trend) might do.

I guess some of their comments about the handling should take this into consideration too. They talk about how soft the suspension is, and I assumed some of this was due to the fact they were driving a vert.... but they weren't...

I find it funny how there are some out there ragging on the V-6 calling it the slowest car ever, and yet R&T said "owning a V-6 no longer makes you a sissy"

Who would call it the slowest car ever? That's just ignorant. It's the best performing base Mustang ever built, and outperforms GTs from not too long ago.

Yeah, that's right! The V6 hauls rear end! That's why I'm ordering one!

It just needs better tires/wheels. I'm shopping around for those right now......

the 05 platform was designed from the beginning to be a vert, therefore, the added weight penalty is minimul. the same goes for the auto versus the manual: modern automatics do not weight much more than a standard. there will be some loss of performance in acceleration because of the torque converter but i don't think the stick will be much faster. the big advantage to a manual is in the turns...there's no comparison to diving into a twistie with the revs up in 2nd gear, as you throttle steer through the turn; an auto just can't duplicate that!! jackg 90seville 96k
