I saw it mentioned on this forum several weeks ago that some larger dealerships may be getting pre-production 2005's to be used as demo cars. Does anyone have any more info?

Even if they do, there are something in the area of 6000+ Ford dealerships. I highly doubt that they will do this, but you never know.

How many preproduction cars are there?

My dealer told me that every Ford dealer would be getting one Mustang early on to show. He was told that it would not be in addition to his ordered Mustangs but actually be one of them. This car would be shipped to him without the "sticker" and by law could not be sold. He will then display it on his showroom floor for a couple of weeks and then when he gets all necessary paperwork , be able to deliver it to the buyer.

And how many sticky fingers will be all over my steering wheel? How much tread will be left on my tires? How much of the gears will be left in my transmission?

I got a call about a week and a half ago from a local dealership where I am 7th on the waiting list and they said in 30 days they would have an 05 GT in and they said when they get it they will be scheduling test drives in the order in which people are on the waiting list. They said the car was "red exterior and red interior" in those exact words. They also said after all of us have test driven it they will offer it for sale to each person based on the waiting list. So basically if the first person takes it then no one else gets it and so on. They said then after that car was sold they would take orders. I don't know if this helps but that is what they told me.

I'm attending the innovation drive in Orlando, FL on the 28th. I spoke to my dealer today and he just had to brag about going to the "drive" to actually test drive the Mustang. There wasn't much I could say to persuade him to sneak me in for a bit of a drive for myself. What's aggravating is that from all that I've learned on this website, I know 10 times more than he will probably ever know.

Was told by two dealerships up here in great white north.

One car per dealership for display and that no test drives would be allowed.
Cars would be on display near end of september.

Good luck selling cars to anyone other than die-hard Mustang fans, then.
