Mystery weights above GT LCA axle mounts?

Help.

Anybody know why those weights are bolted to the inside of the lower control arm mounts on the axle? (2012 Mustang GT M82 6 speed with the standard axle). I was looking for a way to attach a shackle to the rear axle to tie the car down to a trailer. Looked at a GT500, and it had some nuts welded in right between the LCA and the axle on the LCA mount. But on my GT there are these (I'm guessing) 2 lb weights bolted on there. I can't imagine what they're doing for us, but don't want to remove them until I know why they're in there.

Thanks.

I removed them. Can't say I noticed any difference one way or another just added weight goes against my religion.

From a Ford Engineer that used to post here. He would often mention how different pieces were part of a larger 'system':

lower control arm bracket axle masses

They are there to attenuate axle whine. If you currently notice axle whine in your car in the 45-65mph range, it may increase a bit if you remove the masses. They are one part of a fairly extensive package engineered to address axle whine on the s197 platform.

I took mine off. Didn't hear an increase in noise. Dropped ~5 pounds.
