I assume they were outdoor shots as indoor action shots suck Have you tried setting it to Tv when taking action shots and playing around with the shutter speed? That way you only have to worry about shutter and not so much about aperture.

I was just playing around with different settings without paying too much attention them this time around. One dog just lays around so I was trying settings on him, then the other dog which is playful came home and I used him after. I did a lot in the action mode and rapid firing them off. A lot of movement and a lot of blur there. I did try the Tv for a bit, but late in the afternoon and the sun was behind the trees. Not enough light to gain a fast shutter and a good depth of field.

Sunny weekend coming up so I may try some fall shots somewhere. There are also some swans up the street I want to get if they are around, and if the telephoto will be enough. (70-255).

I actually prefer movement and blur when shooting action shots of my pups.

The white in the distant horizon is thousands of snow geese on the Frasier River foreshore as they stop over on their migration south.

That is a neat picture, how far away do you think the birds where from where you took the picture???

I get Tundra Swans wintering by my house, they should be here within the month, and hang out until February...

They are some of the main motivation for me getting this camera & the 400mm Lens.

I'll post a few photos later.

They were quite a distance out, maybe a mile. With the zoom capability in the camera I was able to get some definition in the picture, then I cropped it. With just my eye sight, a line of white.
We get Swans here too. I regularly hike in a wetland area where they winter.
I have a canon S5-IS which has a 12x optical zoom. 35mm to 432mm
