I just ordered one of those last week. Unfortunately, it came bent in the box as it was not packed very well. Hopefully it is worth the wait once I finally get a replacement.

Reason number 5 to live in Florida:

1) No snow
2) Great beaches
3) No state tax
4) lots of sun
5) No requirement for a front license plate

And the best: we can drive our Mustangs year round.

I live in NYC, and I didn't want to drill into my new car. I used this video as a guide to attaching the factory front plate bracket to my 14 GT.

I didn't use quite as big of a drill bit, but all I needed was some pretty large cable ties and I got it mounted pretty easy. I also put it as far to the side as I could so I wouldn't be blocking the airflow. I'll take a pic later.

Craigs bracket FTW .... $50 and you can put it on and off in 2 minutes. So far I haven't had any vibration issues or anything like that with mine.

The upper and lower edges are double folded and the plate is held on with bolts and nuts, so it isn't going anywhere.

That's illegal in New York, you have to have the entire plate visible not just the letters and numbers.

It's not so much as the state as it is the city, they are just money hungry and all the brownies are for, is just to get revenue for the city. We have gotten tickets for No standing except trucks loading or unloading while we are in the cab of the truck with the back door open and freight at the tail of the truck waiting for the guys to come back for more items. They will write you for no activity, if you are in the back of the truck just standing there they will write you for no activity also and those are $115 tickets. If you have the truck turned off in a no parking zone with the hazards on and you are in the truck they will write you for being parked but if you leave the truck idling you can get a ticket for that. Those are $115 tickets right there.

I think this one is one my favorites, I let one of the parking cops cross the street in front of me and I parked the truck, got out and walked to the parking meter. Got my parking receipt and when I turned around the cop was writing me a ticket so I walk up to him and ask what it was for and he says your parking ticket is expired and not from this block so I screamed what are you ****ing kidding me and out of no where like they popped out of a sewer or something, two of the biggest Indian people (because all the parking cops are either Indian or from that general region) throw me(more like pushed) into the side of the truck and called NYPD. Within two minutes I had a Sargent and PO there the cop was talking to the 3 parking cops that were there and the Sargent was talking to me. He takes the receipt and looks at the ticket and walks back to me, dusts my shirt off and walks back to the parking cops and just goes are you guys serious? Here's his receipt, I realize that he wasn't legally parked there but you have to give him a chance to get a receipt and rips up the ticket and makes a call into their supervisor about it. UPS and FedEx must rack up $15-20k in tickets a day, then there is a Motor Vehicle Tax stamp that you have to have if you want to do business in the city and if you don't have that I believe it is a $150 ticket. It is all about making money for NYC not so much about the state its self.

If it is legal to have the sort of license plate frame that dealers typically put on, that could be fought. Those frames cover virtually all of the plate that is folded over in my solution and everything that would be visible inside the frame is visible on mine.

I had my front plate strap tied to the grill on my Honda S2000, but this solution is totally secure. No vibration or rubbing on painted surfaces and I have had NO cooling problems in 18K miles and one year.

Do you guys know if these license plate bumpers are legal:

BumpShox XL - Front Car Bumper Protection, Ultimate Front Bumper Guard. Front Bumper Protection License Plate Frame. Tougher Than Steel ! : Amazon.com : Automotive BumpShox XL - Front Car Bumper Protection, Ultimate Front Bumper Guard. Front Bumper Protection License Plate Frame. Tougher Than Steel ! : Amazon.com : Automotive

Because it does obscure the edges of the plate.

In Hawaii, the Ford dealer automatically drilled the front bumper of my 2013 GT Premium for license plates (and in addition, they stripped one of the holes for the rear plate). This is a typical Gestapo state so I guess they figure nobody questions this stuff.

I did put a plate bumper like above on my car, but I hardly drive it much so don't know if I will get ticketed.

What I've gathered in my last 8 rebellious years of no front tag are that (here in Texas) city cops USUALLY do not care. (the dash is no longer legal btw in TX)

All through high school and weekend visits up, DFW police do NOT care. They have bigger priorities. Houston police, also, do NOT care... as much. College Station police (@ Texas A&M).. CARE! They'll always pull you over and give you a warning; even if it involves them cutting through gridlock traffic and through a red light. Yeah, they aren't the smartest I've learned.

Texas State Troopers... will ALWAYS... I repeat... will ALWAYS chase you down... even 10 minutes after seeing you to give you a warning for no front tag. Its absolutely ridiculous. I usually drive the speed limit when traveling and had a guy fly passed me at least over 15mph+speed limit. 10 seconds later a cop pulls me over for no front tag.

That being said.. yeah I still don't have a front tag. lol
I keep my front plate under my passenger floor mat in case I get pulled over. Then I'll throw it up on my dash and be like, "Oh, I didn't know that wasn't allowed any more." It's worked the last 5 times.

My dad's a police officer up in DFW so that's where I get my info.

I have found the same to be true. Troopers always care. Police and sheriff's departments don't.

Got really lucky in Nebraska (2 Plate State). As of January 1 last year there is available a Special Interest plate. More or less you pay $50 additional and you get a personalized plate that is legal to run rear only. Apparently a lot of the Sheriffs around here are Corvette guys and they were able to push it through...

Glassback, where do you find this? I live up in the panhandle of NE so this is definitely something I'm interested in. I searched around on the DMV website but I couldn't find anything. That website is a pain to navigate, though so I could have just missed it. I would appreciate your help, thanks.

Works fine with the CS splitter. I just had to mount off center due to gaps underneath.

FullRide14: go to www.clickdmv.ne.gov/ Then under vehicle services click Specialty Plates. Select vehicle type as Passenger. Pops up with your choices... Special Interest is the one you want.

This is why I am glad I live in Wv, Wv doesn't require you to have a front license plate and other states can't issue you a ticket for not having one if you are visiting their states...

Go back and read the post(s) that explain they've fixed the loopholes. Windshield won't fly anymore.
