Cobra Jet Intake Mani VS Boss 302 Intake Mani

Here's an experiment worth trying at home. Take the stock intake manifold from your run-of-the-mill Boss 302. Scrap it. Install a higher flow manifold from a Cobra Jet. See what happens.

Check it out on the blog!

SPOILER ALERT: Things get better. About 20 horsepower better.

Not entirely worth the hefty price tag that comes with it though.

20 horsepower for two grand, also you have to spin the engine to the moon, a feat that no normal coyote 302 would comfortably, reliably live for all that long.

So, the Boss 5.0 is no different from the GT's in way of higher reving? Used to be the original Boss's reved high; I thought maybe the new ones also did the same (allowed for a higher RPM point).

The GT already revs high, redlining @ 7k.
The Boss can rev to 8k, which is Nascar high. It's cost of upgrade is around $500
The Cobra Jet can also rev to 8k and a bit beyond. It's cost of upgrade is around $1450.

Unfortunately unless people are swapping to Boss 302 internals, I wouldn't feel comfortable spinning these engines to 8500 on the regular.

Also this dyno here shows the proof in the pudding. The Boss 302 intake is a good upgrade, but the CJ isn't a huge jump up from that.

Old video all the way from March. Its a pre-production model,as they delayed the release of it and did change and go through few prototypes, before the current model that just went for sale less then a month ago.

That 1450 price tag is just for the intake and TB, you have to think about a tune and intake also.

If you don't need internals for a Boss intake then you aren't going to need internals for the CJ, however if you want to spin past 8k and last then it probably makes sense.

To make the power of the intake you have to spin it that high, if you don't take it past 7K you won't see a gain.

I know a lot of people are using boss manifolds and revving to 7500+, has anyone broken anything yet? I don't recall seeing any posts about it

Yep, I'd rather not blow my motor for 10 more hp.
