My 1976 Mustang II Project
Man that is great story I remeber the Magnum P.I. car because it was the same as the one I rode in. I wanted a 308 too, but really wanted a 512 BB like the one in the Sammy Hagar video. It's really cool that you have one and its only 37k miles. Truly a classic car for many reasons. I'm so jealous.

update: I settled on a D&D T-56 custom built 6 speed with bellhousing, zoom dual clutch kit, and hydraulic throwout bearing. I was thinking of a richmond but just for some reason couldnt find enough info on how to install it. This transmission with everything is $4600.00 less shifter and freight. D&D responded back via email almost instantly and I really like that in a company. In fact if a company doesnt respond back to an email, they get scratched off the list of who I will buy from. Right now being laid up I am not ordering in parts until I get back on my feet, in case it is a while and I dont have any real income coming in right now on top of things.

man it just occurred to me. We have two II threads here. One about someone making the best II I have ever heard of, and another about a kid trying to get the thing to go fast on the ubercheap. It's great having both extremes here
and just to
some fun.... my C4 was $250 and my buddy and I brought it home ourselves.Your T56 will be sooooo much cooler

The thing is if I buy a used part it will break on me. It always happens so I just decided that I am doing this much work I am going to use new parts built to match what I am running. It just might take awhile longer to build it trying to gather all the funds to do it.
I think your project is really cool. You have put alot of time and thought in it. I have a 83 mercury zephyr sport coupe that came out of Colorado october 06. I bought it with 32,000 actual miles on it for $2500 and it had been scraped in a few times on both sides but no rust. A buddy did the bodywork for me and I changed it to 5 lug and repainted it from this gross vanila and avocado two tone to a dandy lion yellow and put on wheel from a 96 mercury grand marquis with white walls. I have 4300.00 in it and it means every bit as much to me as my Ferrari, my vette, this mustang II and my other cars. I should snap a pic of it and put on here.
It is really cool though having 2 different kinds of builds. I joined this site after reading your thread on your project and figured it would be a good place to do mine.

Thanks!
I totally understand your need for new parts. I wasn't being negative at all, just thought I'd poke some fun at another II owner
Theres too few of us these days
I'd love to see some pics of the Zephyr. Hell, the whole collection

I will post some more pics of them. I understand your not being negative, I didnt write it good in my response, I should say That every time I buy a used part it ends up breaking on me so I buy new now lol. I wish I had luck at buying used parts because it would save me some big $$$$.
I really wish we could get them both together on a cruise and fun when they are finished and then post on both threads

The way I see it, Arin, you can rest assured knowing that your Mustang II project thread helped "inspire" another Mustang II owner to post and share his project's progress on this forum of what could possibly be the most outrageous Mustang II project car ever (in a good way). It's cool to have both threads since they both demonstrate their respective owner's desire and the path(s) they took to truly make them personal/special.
BTW, I'd like to be able to "settle" for a T56 trans too... and turbocharging for good measure.

I sent off an email to speedway motors about choosing which master cylinder bore and stroke I want for my pedals. This is a tri reverse mounted master cylinder. 2 are for the brakes, one front and one rear, and one for they hydraulic clutch. I didnt know what one to get as this is not a heavy car , nor a big car and I dont want something with a pedal too hard to push to get the car to stop. I know the car will move, I am more concerned with getting it to stop and shift right. I will use a fluid brake light switch.

Just got a response to my speedway email and I am instructed to use 7/8 inch bore for the front brakes, 1 inch for the rear brake and use the balance bar included to adjust as needed and 3/4 inch for the hydraulic clutch unless the manufacture says different. Got to love a company like speedway for fast , informative replys. They also ship fast and have alot of those little parts needed for building projects like this. And reasonable prices. ( no I dont work for them)lol.

This is such an awesome project. I like the contrast between your thread and Arin's. Best of both worlds and shows the extremes very nicely.
So, since I am extremely lazy and have not (sorry) read this whole thread; have you decided on which engine you are dropping in the II? Any hints on what you plan on modeling your body kit after? Can't wait to see your project moving forward, and on a much smaller scale I understand the money issue.
When you are 16 it is hard to keep money in your pocket, even when you have a dream to buy an 00R cobra hood, Cobra front bumper, side exhaust, and new paint... it's hard to not spend it on the necessities... like girls and food and Nerf guns to shoot your buddies with. I'm sure it's the same set of reasons you aren't able to keep money in your pockets.

I am going with the 5.4 with FR500 DOHC 3 stage cam with a custom built intake and the custom built T56 from D&D. I have been working on sketching the body kit which I am not basing on any other body kit exactly. I am just going with what I think looks good and fits from a fresh point of view. There may end up being similairities with some other body kits but it is strictly coincidence if it happens. I am not sure if my design will have side skirts or not as I really am not into side skirts that much. More a rear roll pan and front valance. I also have the issue where the turbochargers exhaust exits(HINT) so side skirts may not work out well.

Well of course at 16 the order is Cars, Girls, nerf guns , Girls, Cars,Girls, girls, girls, nerf guns, and somewhere down the line is job and family. lol At 42, my list is, Food, Shelter, Family, Royalty(my Dalmation), Cars, Girls maybe, lol

Here are some of my other cars, and what is sad this isnt all of them. There all dusty from winter and each one of them I have something tore apart right now either changing, adding or repair. Mostly pretty minor but if I wasnt ladi up I would have finished them by now. The vette I am changing a head unit in because the one that was in it I put in the zephyr. THis head unit is a clarion that has DVD, VCR and the amps are one memphis 4000 watts RMS into 4 12 inch mojo 3 memphis subs and a memphis 4 x75 watts rms into infinity kappa speakers.
The Pick up is a 1992 Chevy K1500 that has a blown and injected 540 cubic inch big block and rides on 39.5 inch tall swampers with a 5 speed trans and winch. I need to finish it up but with fuel costs it is like who cares. The color is prowler yelow.
The Zephyr is a 1983 with 35,000 miles on it now, bought it with 32,000 fall of 06. It is a 3.3 six cyl. Cheap on gas and fun. It is nick named "Dandee Lion". I cant say in here what the 92 Chevy pick up is nick named.

The Zephyr is probably next on the list after the II is done. But it will be just a suspension swap and maybe either wake up the six or swap it, I wouldnt mind doing a 5.4 swap with automatic over drive and a restoration otherwise as you can see it is in really nice shape. If I had to pick a favorite it would be hard but the zephyr is probably close as it is easy to get in and out of and more comfortable to sit in.
I also been considering a 33 steel roadster as possibly next. I have to get the II done first. I will be posting more pics shortly of other parts for the II.
